Dear Ms. Isaki:
My name is Ann Marmesh. I am writing as a client of Mr. Lish
Whitson's. It has been brought to my attention that Mr. Whitson
has been nominated the Outstanding Lawyer of The Year in King
County. I am thrilled that your Bar is recognizing Mr. Whitson's
dedication to the law and service to others. I would like
to submit to you this personal testimony of the way in which
Mr. Whitson changed my life.
I was referred to Mr. Whitson at a time when I was totally
disabled from a back injury and consequent surgeries. I am
not a medical or legal professional. I had no real comprehension
of the enormity of the issues at stake when I first spoke
with Lish. I was a patient consumed by pain and it was tough
for me to see beyond each day.
Lish was the first male and professional in a two-year long
nightmare willing to take action against what had actually
happened to me. He moved quickly on the case, it required
out of state representation and the need to appeal the termination
of my disability benefits. Over the course of the next year,
Mr. Whitson prevailed in each area, securing counsel in the
other state and succeeding in the reinstatement of my benefits.
In that same year, Mr. Whitson referred me to expert medical
care which eventually led to a proper diagnosis and life-saving
surgery.
One would think oneself fortunate enough to regain physical
and material strength. However, I was given a far greater
gift. Lish, in being himself, taught me that committing one's
life to the establishment of basic human rights for all is
the most gratifying path one can choose. Lish is a deeply
satisfied human being because he does what is right. It is
that simple. How many of us can claim this achievement?
To achieve such a goal we must have models. And in Mr. Lish
Whitson, Seattle and the larger national community are so
blessed. To honor Lish's inspirational leadership with this
most deserved award is to further justice. Our country is
hungry for the ethics with which Lish practices.
Very sincerely yours,
Ann Marmesh
